The first son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Adamu Atiku, who served as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State, has resigned from the cabinet of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

In a statement on Monday issued by his media aide, Abdulaziz Jauro, the former commissioner expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve the state.

“The Honourable Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Adamawa State, Alhaji Adamu Atiku Abubakar, has formally resigned after serving two successful terms in office,” the statement read.

It added that in his resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, Adamu expressed “profound gratitude to His Excellency, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Executive Governor of Adamawa State, for the rare privilege and confidence bestowed upon him to serve in such a strategic capacity.”

Describing his tenure as an honour of immense significance, Adamu pledged continued loyalty and support for the administration’s developmental vision. He also thanked his father for providing moral support and blessings during his tenure.

“He commended the Permanent Secretaries of Works and Energy, the directors, engineers, and all ministry staff for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication to infrastructural development across the state,” the statement added.

Special appreciation was also extended to the people of Jada, his community, “for their steadfast prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support throughout his tenure.”

Adamu stressed that his resignation does not mark the end of his commitment to public service, but opens new avenues for developmental collaboration. He reaffirmed his readiness to continue contributing to the growth, unity, and progress of Adamawa State.

Notably, he was absent on Thursday at Adamawa Government House when Governor Fintiri defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adamu is reportedly nursing a governorship ambition, though he has yet to declare the party platform he intends to contest on. Sources close to his father, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Atiku has endorsed Adamu for a senatorial seat.

Meanwhile, Abba Atiku, another son of Atiku, will contest for a House of Representatives seat under the APC. Adamu is the first son of Atiku’s first wife, Titi Atiku, while Abba is the son of Atiku’s second wife, Laadi Yakubu Atiku.
