African Democratic Congress (ADC) has commenced free nationwide online membership registration as part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections, unveiling a new digital portal to streamline the process.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, urged existing members to update and revalidate their details in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC had earlier fixed the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections for February 20, 2027, and the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections for March 6, 2027. However, the schedule drew criticism from some Muslim stakeholders who noted that the dates coincided with the Ramadan period.
Following the concerns, the Nigerian Senate amended Clause 28 of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, reducing the mandatory election notice period from 360 days to 300 days. This adjustment enabled INEC to revise the timetable.
INEC subsequently released a new schedule, moving the Presidential and National Assembly elections to January 16, 2027, and the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections to February 6, 2027.
Under the updated timetable, political parties are required to submit a comprehensive digital membership register by April 2, 2026—a development some stakeholders argue could disadvantage opposition parties.
The ADC said its online registration portal, accessible at www.adcregistration.ng, is designed to ensure compliance with the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates a verified digital membership register. According to the party, only individuals whose details are fully captured and authenticated on the official digital register will be eligible to vote or contest in its primaries.
The party noted that manual registration will continue nationwide alongside the online exercise. It added that members who registered on its previous platform must revalidate their information on the new portal, as additional mandatory details are now required.
ADC also called on support groups and associations to take advantage of the digital platform, describing the process as seamless and secure.
While rolling out the initiative, the party reiterated its objections to aspects of the Electoral Act 2026 and the resulting INEC timetable, which it claims give undue advantage to the ruling party.
The ADC, however, reaffirmed its commitment to building what it described as a modern, inclusive, and citizen-driven political movement capable of delivering credible leadership and a better Nigeria.
