Gunmen have abducted Mr. Francis Igwe, father of a former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Kelechi Igwe.
The elderly man was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday morning while on his way to church in his Ndufu-Alike community.
Sources within the community said Igwe was driving when armed men riding a motorcycle intercepted his vehicle. The attackers allegedly double-crossed his car, forced him out, and whisked him away to an unknown destination on their motorcycle.
The Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Sunday Nwankwo, confirmed the incident, stating that the council was working closely with security agencies to obtain relevant information and secure the victim’s safe release.
Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, for comment were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report on Sunday.
