EEDC blames Southeast power outages on gas supply shortage

Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC)
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has blamed the drop in electricity supply across the South-East on inadequate gas supply to thermal power generating stations.

The disclosure was made in a statement issued on Friday by the company’s spokesperson, Emeka Ezeh.

According to EEDC, the gas supply constraints have significantly reduced the volume of energy allocated to it from the national grid, resulting in widespread outages within its franchise areas.

The company apologised to customers for the disruption and assured them that efforts are ongoing to address the situation.

“We assure our customers that we are in constant liaison with relevant stakeholders, with the hope that the gas supply constraints and generation challenges will be resolved soon.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this situation may cause our esteemed customers and appreciate your continued patience and understanding,” the statement read.

The development comes just hours after the Nigeria Independent System Operator attributed the nationwide drop in electricity supply to gas shortages affecting power generation.
