Fubara appoints new SSG, chief of staff

Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara
Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has appointed a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chief of Staff at Government House, Port Harcourt.

A statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, announced the appointments of Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as SSG and Barrister Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff, both with immediate effect.

The statement added that the new appointees will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.

No reasons were given for the removal of the former officeholders. According to reports, Wokoma replaces Mr. Benibo Anabraba as SSG, while Ewule succeeds Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff. Ehie’s position had been the subject of speculation, with sources suggesting he had been operating behind the scenes amid political tensions.

The appointments are widely seen as part of the reconciliation between Governor Fubara and his former political ally, Nyesom Wike, following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, who halted a planned impeachment of Fubara by the Rivers State House of Assembly and brokered peace between the two leaders.

Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, recently confirmed that the House officially withdrew the impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.

The appointments follow Fubara’s recent dissolution of his eight-member cabinet of commissioners and the removal of all Special Advisers.
