The Lagos State Government has sealed the popular Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions, including indiscriminate refuse disposal and illegal street trading.
The development was announced on Sunday by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a post shared on X. He wrote, “Lagos State government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions; indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway and illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos.”
The market in Mushin has previously faced sanctions for similar violations. In 2023, the Lagos State Government had reopened Ladipo Market after it met stipulated environmental and sanitation standards. At the time, the Public Affairs Director at the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Kadiri Folashade, said the market was allowed to resume operations after complying with waste management requirements.
Wahab had emphasized that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration prioritizes environmental cleanliness, public health, and safety under the THEMES Plus agenda, and that all markets across the state must strictly adhere to waste management best practices.
Sunday’s sealing signals renewed enforcement by the government amid concerns over compliance at the busy spare parts hub.
