Former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has hosted Hajiya Aisha Buhari, the widow of former President Muhammadu Buhari, along with her daughter Hanan and other members of the Buhari family, during their visit to Saudi Arabia.
Atiku shared the meeting in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, noting that both families are in the Kingdom to perform the lesser hajj, or Umrah, a pilgrimage undertaken by Muslims for spiritual reflection and prayer.
“I was honoured to host Hajiya Aisha Buhari, wife of former President Muhammadu Buhari, her daughter Hanan, and other family members during their visit to me in Saudi Arabia,” Atiku wrote. “Like me, the former First Lady and her family are in the Kingdom on a lesser hajj.”
The visit is particularly noteworthy as it marks Mrs Buhari’s first known trip to Saudi Arabia since the passing of her husband in 2025.
While the encounter has drawn public attention given Atiku and Aisha Buhari’s prominent roles in Nigeria’s political history, the meeting was described as a private and cordial gathering focused on religious devotion rather than politics.
