Filmmaker Toyin Abraham’s Nollywood comedy Oversabi Aunty has officially surpassed the ₦1 billion mark at the box office, marking a historic milestone for her directorial debut.

FilmOne Entertainment, the movie’s distributor, announced the achievement on Monday via its official X account, reporting a total gross of ₦1,017,201,953. This makes Oversabi Aunty the first Nollywood directorial debut to hit ₦1 billion and the fourth highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time.

“₦1 Billion+ at the box office. First Nollywood directorial debut to hit ₦1 Billion. 4th-highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time. West Africa, this is a full celebration!!!” FilmOne wrote.

Reacting to the milestone, Abraham expressed her gratitude on Instagram: “My first directorial debut on the big screen. Oversabi Aunty to the world and still showing in cinemas near you.
Thank you, God. Thank you, Toyintitans. Thank you, Nigerians. Thanks to my cast. Thanks to my crew. Thank you, FilmOne. Thank you, everyone. I’m short of words.”

Released in December 2025, Oversabi Aunty tells the story of an overzealous church usher whose meddling in family affairs spirals into chaotic and comedic consequences. The film stars Abraham alongside Mike Ezuruonye and Odunlade Adekola and has been praised for its relatable humor and cultural themes.

In related news, FilmOne Entertainment also celebrated another box-office milestone on Monday: Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes has now grossed ₦2.4 billion, becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood film of the year.

“The Queen of Box Office for a reason!! Behind The Scenes hits a whopping ₦2.4bn, making it the highest-grossing film of the weekend,” FilmOne wrote on X.

Released in December 2025, Behind The Scenes reached ₦1 billion in just 17 days, set a single-day regional record of ₦129.5 million on Boxing Day, and concluded its cinema run at approximately ₦2.103 billion, surpassing Akindele’s earlier hit Everybody Loves Jenifa.

With this success, Funke Akindele has become the only Nigerian filmmaker with three films earning over ₦1 billion each: Behind The Scenes, Everybody Loves Jenifa, and A Tribe Called Judah. Collectively, her films have grossed about ₦5.39 billion, securing her spot as Nollywood’s most commercially successful filmmaker and the first to top the African box office for three consecutive years, from 2023 to 2025.
