A woman identified as Esther reportedly died after visiting her boyfriend in the Dei-Dei area of Abuja on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
A local resident, Dauda, said Esther left home that afternoon, telling her sister she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei, but she never returned.
According to Dauda, later that night, Esther’s boyfriend contacted her elder brother to report her death. He reportedly said he had bought her food, after which she began vomiting. She was then taken to Kubwa General Hospital, where she died while receiving treatment.
“Since the incident, both Esther’s and her boyfriend’s phone numbers have been switched off. He also did not provide his name or address,” Dauda said.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that an investigation into the matter is ongoing. “We are aware of the incident and we are investigating,” she said on Friday.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information about the case to come forward to assist the investigation.
