Ogun govt launches AI-powered teaching platform for schools

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has unveiled a first-of-its-kind Artificial Intelligence-powered Teaching and Learning Platform, the Ogun Learning Enhancement and Academic Resource Network (OgunLearn), aimed at modernising the state’s education sector for the 21st century.

The platform was officially launched on Wednesday at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta. Speaking at the event, Governor Abiodun said OgunLearn would provide comprehensive lesson resources and interactive learning support for students while enabling teachers to plan lessons, access teaching materials, and track performance efficiently.

He added that the platform is designed to foster creativity, digital literacy, self-paced learning, analytical thinking, accountability, and lifelong learning skills among students. “OgunLearn reflects our firm belief that every child, regardless of location or background, deserves access to quality education enhanced by technology,” Abiodun said. “This initiative represents foresight, innovation, and a deliberate effort to prepare children and youths for the future rather than the past.”

The governor highlighted that Ogun State is now the only state in Nigeria operating a Skills Qualifications Awarding Body and an accredited training centre for globally recognised digital professionals.

OgunLearn forms part of the broader Education Digital Transformation Agenda (OGSERA), through which the state leverages technology to empower teachers, strengthen institutions, and improve learning outcomes. Abiodun also cited the Digital Platform for Education Revitalisation (DIPER), an integrated school management system that has brought transparency, efficiency, and real-time data into school administration.

The platform complements several other initiatives introduced by Abiodun’s administration, including the Ogun Skills Fund to boost employability, Ogun Educash and Ogun Scholar to promote access and equity, Ogun-Rehab to modernise school infrastructure, Ogun Teach to improve teacher quality, and Ogun-DIPER to enhance transparency and efficiency.

Emphasising the role of AI in preparing students for the future, Abiodun said the platform would help build a workforce capable of local innovation, global competitiveness, and attracting high-value investments. He noted that Ogun State has become a national reference point in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and pioneered the Learner Identification System (LIN), now adopted nationally as the Examination Learner Identification Number (ELIN).

“Education remains the strongest legacy of this administration,” Abiodun said. “Through initiatives like OgunLearn, we are confidently building our future together.”

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, recalled how the state leveraged technology during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure uninterrupted learning. The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Evang Olalekan Ifede, described the AI-powered platform as the future of education and urged teachers to fully utilise its capabilities to enhance teaching and learning.
