The Federal Government has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering Nigerian postgraduate students the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
The announcement was made via a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Dada Olusegun, Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, on Monday.
“FG has announced the commencement of applications for 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarships overseas,” the post stated.
According to the PTDF Scholarship Board, the scheme targets MSc and PhD candidates in disciplines relevant to the oil and gas sector, covering tuition, return flights, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable.
The PTDF highlighted that the scholarships offer access to world-class training, research facilities, and global expertise, while building indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
For PhD applicants in the UK, scholarships will follow a split-site arrangement, enabling research between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK) and partner universities including Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and University of Portsmouth.
The agency stressed that the scholarships are highly competitive, and selection will be based on academic credentials, research proposals, professional memberships, and relevance to the oil and gas sector.
To be eligible, MSc applicants must have a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) or 2.1 in their first degree, must have completed the NYSC programme, be computer literate, and hold five O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics. PhD applicants must meet the same requirements and additionally submit a research proposal of up to five pages, outlining objectives, methodology, and data collection approaches.
Applicants must have a verified National Identity Number (NIN), and multiple applications or falsified documents will result in automatic disqualification.
Interested candidates should apply online at scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng. The closing date for applications is 27th February 2026.
