Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of Guinea-Conakry’s president-elect, Mamadi Doumbouya, scheduled to hold in Conakry.
The vice-president will attend the ceremony on Saturday, January 17, at the GLC Stadium, Nongo, following Doumbouya’s electoral victory.
This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President.
Nkwocha said Shettima’s participation underscores Nigeria’s leadership role in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its commitment to supporting Guinea’s return to constitutional order after a four-year transition.
He noted that the visit aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at strengthening regional leadership, economic cooperation and global integration.
“Beyond diplomatic solidarity, the visit seeks to deepen bilateral trade relations, particularly following a recent increase in Nigerian exports to Guinea mainly manufactured goods and agricultural products to $3.29 million,” Nkwocha said.
He added that from Guinea, Shettima will travel to Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, to participate in the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF 2026), scheduled for January 19 to 23.
According to him, the vice-president will engage global leaders and investors on Nigeria’s economic reform agenda, investment opportunities and Africa’s role in shaping a resilient and inclusive global economy.
WEF 2026, themed “A Spirit of Dialogue,” will convene leaders from government, business, civil society, and scientific and cultural communities to promote dialogue, collaborative problem-solving and forward-looking solutions to global challenges.
Key discussions at the forum will focus on the impact of frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, next-generation biotechnology and advanced energy systems.
“The objective is to explore how these innovations can be responsibly deployed to unlock new growth opportunities, expand access in emerging markets, invest in skills for a changing workforce and promote sustainable, inclusive development,” Nkwocha said.
Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria after concluding his engagements in Davos.
