Fubara orders immediate employment for children of fallen heroes

Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has directed the immediate employment of children of fallen servicemen in the state. The announcement was made on Thursday during the Armed Forces Remembrance ceremony at Government House, Port Harcourt, as part of activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Fubara said the directive underscores the state government’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces, other security agencies, and the families of personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He tasked the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, with ensuring the prompt implementation of the employment directive.

“In line with our support, the Secretary to the State Government has been given marching orders to ensure the employment promised for the children of our veterans is immediately executed. This is part of our effort to provide socio-economic support to their families,” Fubara stated.

The governor emphasized that Rivers State will continue to collaborate with military formations by providing logistical and welfare support to enhance operational effectiveness. He acknowledged the sacrifices of troops deployed across the country, including in the North-East against Boko Haram, in the North-West and North-Central regions against banditry and kidnapping, and in the South-East and South-South addressing pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, and other security challenges.

Fubara also paid tribute to soldiers who died during the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, various international peacekeeping missions, and recent counter-insurgency operations. He commended President Bola Tinubu for strengthening the military through improved welfare, modern equipment, and efforts to tackle internal security challenges.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Rivers State chapter, Kuu Aminkipo Promise, thanked the state government for its continued support, highlighting the launch of the 2026 Emblem Appeal Fund and the governor’s donation of ₦100 million, describing it as a reassuring gesture for veterans, widows, and dependents of fallen heroes.
