Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has announced that he has undergone surgery following a knee contusion.

In a series of posts shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, the Nigeria international revealed that he had been enduring a difficult period, saying he had been “putting on a fake smile” for almost a year, while remaining grateful to God.

“Been putting fake smile for almost a year. But God know why all this is happening. Grateful to God,” Boniface wrote.

In a subsequent post, the footballer confirmed that the surgery was successful and encouraged others not to succumb to depression during challenging times.

“Bbl done and dusted. Omo if he reach ur turn make depression wound you,” he wrote, using a mix of English and slang to express resilience.

Boniface also thanked fans and well-wishers for their messages of support. “Thanks for the messages,” he added.

The Telegraph recalls that Boniface missed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after suffering a major abductor injury on the eve of the tournament in Ivory Coast, marking a difficult spell for the striker over the past year.
