The Plateau State Government has announced the rescue of 25 people abducted by kidnappers in Wase Local Government Area on December 21, 2025.
The Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, disclosed this on Saturday while briefing journalists at the Rayfield Government House in Jos.
Jatau explained that the victims were travelling to attend Eid-el-Maulud celebrations when they were intercepted and abducted by kidnappers disguised as vigilantes.
“We are pleased to inform the public that security agencies have successfully rescued 25 kidnapped persons,” he said. “They were among 28 travellers in the vehicle at the time of the attack, but three managed to escape during the incident.”
According to him, the rescued victims consist of 19 males and six females and were freed following sustained security operations involving state authorities and security agencies.
He added that all the victims had undergone medical examinations and were found to be in stable condition, with only minor injuries recorded.
Jatau commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for its role in the rescue operation, describing the agency’s efforts as commendable and impactful across the state.
The rescued individuals were formally handed over to officials of Wase Local Government Area.
The SSG urged the local government to ensure the provision of psychological support before the victims are reunited with their families.
“The local government should closely monitor them, provide psychological care, and manage their recovery for a few weeks before they return home. The state government will support this process,” he said.
He reaffirmed the Plateau State Government’s commitment to security and expressed gratitude to all security agencies for their continued efforts to safeguard lives and property in the state.
