AA Rano to launch 24-hour unmanned fuel stations nationwide

Auwalu Abdullahi Rano (AAR) Nigeria Limited has unveiled plans to launch 24-hour unmanned fuel stations across the country, marking a major step in the digital transformation of Nigeria’s downstream oil and gas sector.

The company, founded and owned by oil and gas entrepreneur Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, said its first set of unmanned stations will feature fully digitalised, smart fuel-dispensing technology that allows motorists to refuel and make instant payments without the assistance of fuel attendants.

In a statement released in Kano on Wednesday, Rano disclosed that the self-dispensing stations are being deployed in partnership with Petrosoft Limited, a Nigerian technology firm specialising in management systems for the oil and gas industry.

Under the partnership, Petrosoft will roll out its automated fuel station technology across AAR’s network of more than 200 retail outlets nationwide, including stations in border communities with Niger, Chad, Benin and Cameroon.

“Our first automated fuel stations are expected to commence operations in January 2026,” Rano said. “The initiative will enable motorists and motorcyclists to refuel and complete payments instantly, without attendants, on a 24-hour basis.”

Rano explained that the technology is designed to reduce man-hour losses, enhance transparency, and assure customers that they are receiving the exact volume of fuel paid for. He added that the system is also integrated with an artificial intelligence platform to help mitigate security breaches and operational risks.

The Chief Executive Officer of Petrosoft Limited, Dr Joshua Denila, said the project highlights the potential of home-grown technology to address longstanding challenges in Nigeria’s retail fuel market.

“Our fuel dispensing and payment systems are developed locally and built to international standards,” Denila said, noting that the technology is designed to improve efficiency across the fuel supply chain, from individual retail stations to large fuelling depots nationwide.
