Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Marrakesh ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final showdown against Algeria scheduled for Saturday.
The encounter is expected to be a stern test for the three-time African champions as they look to sustain their momentum and keep alive their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday by photojournalist Sulaimon Adebayo, popularly known as Pooja, the Super Eagles were seen receiving a warm welcome from residents of Marrakesh.
The Nigerian team is aiming for a place in the semi-finals after an impressive run in the tournament so far. The Super Eagles booked their quarter-final spot with a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique in Fès, extending their perfect record at the competition.
Preparations for Saturday’s high-stakes clash were earlier overshadowed by reports of unpaid bonuses and player unrest, including threats to boycott training or travel.
However, The Telegraph reported that the concerns have since been resolved, with the National Sports Commission confirming that all outstanding allowances and match bonuses have been approved and are being disbursed. The development clears a major distraction as the team turns its full attention to the Algeria fixture.
