US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Venezuela’s interim government would deliver up to 50 million barrels of oil to the United States, adding that the proceeds from the sales would be placed under his control.
“The Interim Authorities in Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 MILLION barrels of high-quality, sanctioned oil to the United States of America,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
He said the oil would be sold at market prices, with the revenue overseen by him as president “to ensure it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States.”
Meanwhile, Venezuela’s caretaker president, Delcy Rodríguez, on Tuesday appointed a former central bank chief to her cabinet’s top economic position, a role she previously held before the removal of leftist leader Nicolás Maduro.
Rodríguez named Calixto Ortega Sánchez, who served as governor of Venezuela’s central bank from 2018 to 2025 and has prior experience in the country’s oil sector.
