The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, has turned himself in to the police following allegations of rape and other offences capable of causing a breach of public peace, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed.
The case has since been transferred to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Sylvester Alabi, for further investigation.
The development followed Okafor’s failure to honour an earlier police invitation on Monday after he was summoned on Sunday by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, over the allegations.
Speaking in an interview with TVC on Wednesday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, said the cleric initially communicated through his lawyer that he would appear on Monday but failed to do so.
“When he was invited, he reached us through his lawyer that he would appear on Monday. We waited for him, but he did not show up, and I subsequently directed that he be arrested,” Jimoh said.
“However, he later presented himself yesterday (Tuesday).”
The police commissioner explained that the matter had been transferred to Zone 2 after it was discovered that a parallel investigation had already been opened at the zonal headquarters.
“We later discovered that the same matter had been opened at the Zone 2 headquarters under the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, and upon verification, I was informed that investigations had been ongoing there for about three weeks,” he said.
“Since the AIG occupies a higher command position and is my immediate supervisor, we handed the matter over to Zone 2.”
Addressing concerns raised by alleged victims, Jimoh noted that social media had become an important platform for reporting alleged misconduct.
“Social media has become a veritable space for people to lodge complaints. We no longer wait for people to come formally before acting in the public interest, especially when such issues could lead to a breakdown of law and order,” he said.
The controversy surrounding Okafor began in mid-December 2025, when multiple allegations surfaced online.
Nollywood actress Doris Ogala accused the pastor of engaging in a prolonged sexual relationship with her since 2017, alleging broken promises of marriage, the sharing of explicit content, and circumstances that contributed to the collapse of her previous marriage.
Amid mounting public outcry, Okafor reportedly addressed his congregation on December 28, 2025, where he apologised for past “mistakes” and knelt at the pulpit to seek forgiveness.
Reports also indicate that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is considering disciplinary action, while Okafor has stepped aside from his pastoral duties pending the outcome of the investigations.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that adequate security has been provided for all alleged victims, adding that investigations at SCID, Panti, and Zone 2 are ongoing.
