NiMet forecasts three-day nationwide haze, sunshine

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast hazy and sunny weather conditions across the country from Wednesday to Friday.

In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet predicted sunny and hazy skies over the northern region throughout the forecast period.

For the southern region, the agency envisaged sunny conditions with patches of cloud, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states later in the day.

According to NiMet, Thursday will see sunny and hazy conditions over the northern and central regions, while the south is expected to experience sunny skies with cloud patches.

The agency added that thunderstorms with light rain are likely in parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states during the morning hours, with further thunderstorms anticipated later in the day across Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states.

On Friday, NiMet forecast sunny and hazy skies over the northern region in the morning, with dust haze expected to develop during the afternoon and evening. The central region is expected to remain sunny and hazy throughout the day.

In the south, cloudy skies with sunny intervals are expected in the morning, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

NiMet warned that dust particles remain in suspension over the North-Central region and advised the public to take necessary precautions, particularly people with asthma and other respiratory conditions.

The agency also urged motorists to drive with caution during rainfall and advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective operational planning.
