Jonathan reaffirms commitment to PDP, says Turaki

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan at his Maitama office in Abuja.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, PDP National Chairman Tanimu Turaki said the visit was to brief Jonathan on the state of the party, ongoing legal challenges, and its prospects ahead of forthcoming elections.

According to Turaki, the former president reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP and pledged continued support.

“He has assured us that he remains an active, card-carrying member of the PDP and feels a sense of obligation to support the party. He believes the PDP has done a lot for him, and he will, in turn, do his best for the party,” Turaki said.

Turaki described Jonathan’s comments as “reassuring and encouraging” as the party prepares for off-season governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun, as well as the 2027 general elections.

The PDP has recently been grappling with a leadership crisis, with rival factions led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Turaki each laying claim to the position of national chairman. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has intervened to clarify the party’s leadership structure ahead of the Ekiti and Osun polls.

Meanwhile, speculation continues over the possibility of Jonathan emerging as the PDP’s presidential candidate in 2027, although the former president has yet to publicly state his intentions.
