South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday condemned the United States’ seizure of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, reaffirming his country’s support for the people of Venezuela.

In a post on his official X page, Ramaphosa wrote: “We utterly reject the actions embarked upon by the United States and stand with the people of Venezuela.”

He added, “It is our commitment to international law and the United Nations Charter that informs our deep concern over the United States’ actions in Venezuela, which have undermined the territorial integrity and sovereignty of this UN member state.”

Reiterating his call for global accountability, Ramaphosa urged the United Nations to take decisive action, saying: “We reiterate our call for decisive action by the United Nations Security Council to fulfil its mandate and advance peace and security.”
