The Niger State Government has approved the reopening of selected public and private schools across the state, effective Monday, January 12, 2026, following comprehensive security assessments and consultations with relevant security agencies.

The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and signed by the Commissioner, Hadiza Mohammed.

According to the statement, Governor Umaru Bago granted the approval as part of efforts to ensure the continuity of education while prioritising the safety of students, teachers, and school communities.

The government stressed that only schools located in areas assessed as safe and secure would be permitted to resume academic activities.

It also assured that adequate security would be provided in and around school premises through sustained collaboration with security agencies to guarantee a safe learning environment.
