FCTA releases hotlines for reporting uncleared refuse

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has released four telephone numbers for residents to report cases of uncleared refuse across the FCT, as part of efforts to address the territory’s growing waste management challenges.

The telephone lines, which are accessible via WhatsApp, will allow residents to submit pictures and videos of refuse that has not been evacuated by waste management contractors.

The Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, urging residents to actively participate in monitoring sanitation services in their communities.

According to Olayinka, the initiative is aimed at ensuring accountability among waste management contractors and improving environmental cleanliness in the nation’s capital.

“The Federal Capital Territory Administration has made four telephone numbers available to residents of the FCT to report uncleared refuse,” the statement said. “This is to address the worsening waste situation by ensuring that contractors carry out their duties as required.”

The move comes about a month after the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, approved new waste management contracts for 54 contractors following the expiration of the previous agreements in April 2025.

Speaking to the contractors during an interactive session on November 14, 2025, Wike said a task force had been established to monitor their performance, warning that non-performance could lead to contract termination.

“Waste management is a demanding task, but it is critical to the development of our capital city,” Wike said. “You applied for this job, and no one forced you. Payments will not be a problem. What will speak for you is the quality of your work. There will be no favouritism.”

Olayinka added that residents should clearly state the location where the photos or videos were taken to help authorities identify the contractor responsible for the affected area.

The designated WhatsApp numbers are 08038643087, 07011073406, 07011255710, and 09114843425.
