The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the defection of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The announcement was made by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yelwata, who hails from Plateau State, during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Yelwata said that with Governor Mutfwang’s defection, the entire North Central geopolitical zone is now governed by the APC.
Governor Mutfwang was elected on the platform of the PDP in the 2023 general elections and is the latest high-profile politician to leave the main opposition party.
APC membership drive
At the meeting, the APC chairman issued a deadline of January 30, 2026, for all party members to complete their electronic membership registration.
He explained that the activation of the electronic registration system, which has already commenced, is aimed at enhancing transparency, data integrity, and internal democracy within the party.
According to him, training sessions have been conducted at the state, zonal, and local government levels across most states to ensure a smooth nationwide rollout.
“We urge all stakeholders to support the nationwide rollout of this important initiative. We also want to assure all new members that they enjoy the same rights and privileges within the party,” Yelwata said.
He encouraged both old and new members to take advantage of the registration exercise by enrolling themselves and their supporters on the party’s portal.
“The registration exercise will run from now until January 30. All members are expected to complete their registration ahead of the party congresses scheduled to take place,” he added.
The meeting was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, the leadership of the National Assembly, and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Also in attendance were APC governors, including Peter Mbah of Enugu, Douye Diri of Bayelsa, Agbu Kefas of Taraba, and Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, who recently defected to the APC, as well as former governors, members of the party’s national leadership, and other key stakeholdersa
