Bayelsa deputy gov collapses in office, rushed to hospital

Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo
Tension gripped Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Thursday after the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, reportedly collapsed and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in his office, prompting an immediate emergency response. Eyewitnesses said he appeared to be in serious condition when he was taken into the hospital’s emergency unit.

Hospital sources confirmed that Senator Ewhrudjakpo has been stabilised and is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). No official statement has been issued regarding the cause of the health scare, though some sources suggested it might be linked to a possible cardiac episode.

A source close to the deputy governor described him as having an extremely demanding schedule. “He’s a workaholic; he should find time to rest,” the source said.

Security operatives have cordoned off the hospital premises as top government officials continue to arrive to show concern. Efforts to reach the deputy governor’s media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, were unsuccessful.

However, medical sources at FMC told our correspondent that Ewhrudjakpo is stable and receiving the best possible care.
