Taraba State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ibrahim Tukur, has confirmed that Governor Agbu Kefas will formally join the party in January 2026.
Governor Kefas had earlier postponed his planned defection, initially scheduled for November 19 to the APC following the kidnap of students in Kebbi State.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Jalingo, the state capital, Tukur said the party has taken decisive steps to suspend certain ward executives for violating the APC constitution. He urged all aggrieved members to exhaust internal dispute resolution mechanisms before seeking redress in court.
Speaking on behalf of the State Working Committee, he also announced the reversal of the suspension of Abel Peter, the Taraba State Assembly member representing Mbamga Constituency, who had been sanctioned by his ward executives for alleged anti-party activities.
Tukur dismissed claims by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that he would reclaim Taraba for the opposition, describing the remarks as “a daydream” and “a joke taken too far.” He insisted that the APC has already secured the Taraba Government House and has no intention of relinquishing it.
