Osun governor Ademola Adeleke resigns from PDP

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform on which he was elected senator and later governor.

Adeleke announced his exit in a post on his official X handle late Monday, attaching a resignation letter dated November 4, 2025. The letter was addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area.

He attributed his decision to the crisis rocking the PDP’s national leadership.

“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect,” he wrote.

Adeleke also expressed appreciation to the party for the platform it provided throughout his political career, including his tenure as Senator for Osun West from 2017 to 2019 and his election as governor in 2022.

The attached letter showed that the ward chairman acknowledged receipt of the resignation on November 4.

The governor did not disclose his next political destination, leaving speculation over his plans ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Adeleke’s political journey reflects a steady rise: he won the Osun West senatorial by-election in 2017, was sworn in as governor on November 27, 2022, after defeating then-incumbent Gboyega Oyetola, and now, in 2025, his resignation from the PDP marks a significant shift in Osun’s political landscape.
