The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has directed all public senior secondary schools in Abuja to shut down on or before Friday, November 28, citing urgent security concerns.
The directive was communicated in a memo issued on Tuesday by Aishatu Alhassan, Director of School Services at the FCT Secondary Education Board.
According to the memo obtained by our correspondent, school principals and heads are required to end all academic activities immediately and ensure students are dismissed safely and in an orderly manner. Schools are also instructed to notify students, staff, and parents, adjust all scheduled academic activities, and prepare to resume on the next official school day unless further instructions are issued.
The FCTA emphasized that the directive should be treated as “important and urgent,” urging all principals and school heads to comply fully.
The closure follows a series of recent abductions in northern and central Nigeria. On November 12, 25 female students were kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State. In Niger State, 315 people, including 303 students and 12 teachers, were abducted from St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.
Additionally, 38 worshippers were abducted during a church service at Christ Apostolic Church in Oke Isegun, Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, but were later released. On Monday evening, at least ten residents of Isapa community in Kwara were also kidnapped.
