Governors of the South-West states convened a closed-door meeting on Monday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The meeting was attended by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who chairs the South-West Governors’ Forum, alongside Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Governor Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Governor Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Governor Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and the host governor, Seyi Makinde (Oyo).
According to The Telegraph, the meeting took place at the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, where Governor Makinde’s office is located.
Although the agenda was not disclosed, the emergency nature of the gathering is believed to be linked to the recent escalation in insecurity across the country, including the abduction of schoolchildren in Kebbi and Niger states and the kidnapping of worshippers in a church in Kwara State.
Sources indicated that the governors were expected to deliberate on prevailing security threats, accelerate regional infrastructural development, and strengthen cooperation under the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN).
They are also likely to review the status of ongoing joint security operations, particularly the Amotekun Corps, with the aim of boosting its capacity in response to emerging challenges.
