The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Victor Cletus, who allegedly defrauded and sexually exploited a young female victim by posing as a medical doctor.
Cletus, who was later discovered to be a cleaner at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan Remo, reportedly presented himself on Snapchat as a surgeon affiliated with the hospital.
The victim allegedly confided in him regarding a medical concern involving a lump in her breast, believing his fabricated credentials. Instead of providing medical assistance, Cletus reportedly sexually abused her and stole money from her Opay account.
The state police command spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the arrest followed a report lodged by the victim.
“Believing his fabricated credentials, the victim confided in him about a medical concern involving a lump in her right breast. Taking advantage of her vulnerability, the suspect demanded an unspecified amount of money as a supposed operation fee and deceitfully instructed her to meet him for a surgical procedure on 18/11/2025,” CSP Odutola said.
“Instead of offering any medical help, he sexually abused her and also stole money from her Opay account. The victim’s suspicion grew the following day when the suspect persisted in demanding sexual intimacy without conducting any procedure. She independently contacted Babcock University Teaching Hospital and was shocked to learn that Victor Cletus is not a doctor but a cleaner in the hospital. The suspect is currently under investigation and will be prosecuted accordingly.”
The command warned the public particularly young females to exercise caution on social media, where criminals often disguise themselves with false identities to lure, manipulate, and defraud innocent persons.
State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, condemned the act, warning online predators and impostors that the command would not tolerate any form of exploitation, deception, or sexual violence against females.
Ogunlowo urged young females to be vigilant and avoid sharing personal or medical information with strangers online.
The police command reiterated its commitment to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting individuals who weaponize social media platforms to commit crimes.
