Plateau government denies Mutfwang’s defection to YPP

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang
The Plateau State Government on Friday dismissed persistent rumours suggesting that Governor Caleb Mutfwang has defected to the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

In a statement, the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Government House, Dr. Gyang Bere, described the claim as “a blatant lie, a shameless concoction peddled by desperate mischief makers” intended to mislead citizens and sow confusion.

The statement reaffirmed that Mutfwang remains committed to his duties and “has not defected to any party.”

Bere emphasized: “Governor Mutfwang has not defected to the Young Progressives Party. Should there be any change in his political status, the governor will communicate it directly through official and verified channels to the people of Plateau State and all well-wishers.”

The government urged residents and supporters to ignore the false claims and focus on the governor’s ongoing development projects and people-centered initiatives.

“We call on supporters, well-wishers, and all patriotic citizens of Plateau State to disregard this falsehood completely. Remain steadfast, vigilant, and united in advancing the Plateau project,” the statement said.

It added: “Under Governor Mutfwang’s purposeful and visionary leadership, Plateau State remains safe, stable, and steadily progressing toward a brighter, stronger, and more resilient future.”

Rumours of the governor’s defection have circulated for months, dividing opinions among members of the All Progressives Congress, with some welcoming the alleged move and others rejecting it.

Mutfwang, who was elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), reiterated on Friday that he remains loyal to his party.
