Paystack suspends co-founder Ezra Olubi over sexual misconduct allegation

Paystack has suspended its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following a now viral sexual misconduct allegation, the company confirmed on Friday.

The fintech firm said a formal internal investigation has been launched.

In a statement to TechCabal, Paystack said, “Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi. We take matters of this nature extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation.”

The company added that it would refrain from further comment until the investigation concludes. “Out of respect for the individuals involved and to protect the integrity of the process, we will not be commenting further until the investigation is complete,” the statement read.

The suspension follows the resurfacing of Olubi’s decade-old social media posts, reportedly made between 2009 and 2013, which included sexualised comments about “touching a coworker… inappropriately” and minors.

One tweet from May 23, 2011, read: “Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Touch a coworker today. Inappropriately.” Another said, “I judge my female friends by the sound their pee makes. Thanks to the audio recorder in my bathroom.”

Olubi has not publicly responded to the posts and has deactivated his X account.

A prominent tech entrepreneur, Olubi was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) by the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. He was among 450 recipients in the most recent round, bringing Nigeria’s total number of National Honours awardees since 1963 to 5,341.
