Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked head coach Vítor Pereira after a disastrous start to the 2025/26 Premier League season, which has seen the club fail to win any of their opening 10 games.
Pereira, who signed a new three-year contract in September after guiding Wolves to safety last season, leaves the club with just two points from a possible 30. Saturday’s 3–0 defeat at Fulham left the team eight points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table.
“Wolves have parted company with head coach Vítor Pereira after a winless start to the 2025/26 season,” the club said in a statement. “While Pereira and his coaches made an immediate impact upon joining last December, guiding the team to a strong finish last season, results and performances this term have fallen below expectations. A change in leadership was therefore deemed necessary.”
Pereira faced major challenges following the summer departures of key players, including Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, Rayan Aït-Nouri to Manchester City, and Nélson Semedo to Fenerbahçe.
Fan frustration had been growing for months over the club’s lack of investment under Chinese owners Fosun International. Once a fan favourite for his passionate connection with supporters, Pereira’s relationship with the Molineux faithful deteriorated sharply this season. He was even escorted away after a heated confrontation with fans following last weekend’s 3–2 home defeat to Burnley.
“Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment,” said Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi. “Despite our desire to give the head coach time to turn things around, we have reached a point where change was unavoidable.”
Wolves, who finished 16th last season, are now searching for their fifth permanent manager in three years as they fight to preserve their eight-year stay in the Premier League.
