FG launches ₦10m tax reform challenge for students

Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Tax Policy and Fiscal Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele.
The Federal Government has launched the Tax Reform Challenge, a nationwide competition aimed at engaging Nigerian students in discussions around the country’s ongoing tax reforms.

The announcement was made on Friday by Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

According to Oyedele, the initiative seeks to raise tax awareness, promote fiscal education, and inspire youth-led innovation in shaping Nigeria’s new tax landscape.

“The challenge is designed to encourage creativity, critical thinking, and informed dialogue among young Nigerians on tax reform,” Oyedele said.

The competition is open to undergraduates in all Nigerian tertiary institutions as well as recent graduates currently undergoing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or awaiting mobilisation.

Participants are required to study Nigeria’s new tax reform laws and create original content — such as articles, videos, podcasts, radio pieces, or social media posts — published between July 1 and December 31, 2025.

Entries, according to the organisers, must be educative, engaging, and fact-based. Oyedele noted that constructive criticism of the reforms is welcome, provided submissions remain factual and respectful.

Submissions will be judged on creativity, factual accuracy, and ability to inform or engage the public on tax issues.

Winners will share ₦10 million in cash prizes, with the first prize receiving ₦5 million, the second ₦3 million, and the third ₦2 million.

Additional rewards include gadgets, internships or job opportunities, and recognition as Tax Reform Youth Ambassadors, who will help promote fiscal literacy and drive youth participation in national tax discussions.
