The Osun State Government has appointed global Afrobeats star, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.

The appointment is part of the government’s broader strategy to revamp the sports sector by attracting private investment and philanthropic support to ensure sustainable sports development across the state.

The announcement was confirmed by the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports. Speaking at a press briefing reported by The Guardian Nigeria, Adewusi reiterated the administration’s commitment to transforming the state’s sports infrastructure under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

He said the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is a key part of that vision and assured that, once completed, the facility will meet Olympic standards and be capable of hosting both national and international competitions.

“The renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium are in progress and will be completed in the shortest possible time,” Adewusi stated. “We are also in the advanced stages of establishing the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation.”

The newly introduced Osun State Sports Trust Fund aims to attract financial support from sports philanthropists, private sector investors, and the broader public, both within and outside the state.

“Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he accepted the role without hesitation,” Adewusi added. “His involvement is expected to attract significant resources that will positively impact sports development in Osun.”
