Okpebholo mandates Tinubu-branded outfits for cabinet members

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has instructed members of his cabinet to publicly demonstrate their loyalty to President Bola Tinubu by wearing branded outfits featuring the president’s insignia.

The directive came on Tuesday during the swearing-in of newly appointed commissioners and the inauguration of commissions and boards for various state agencies in Benin.

Governor Okpebholo, who credited his electoral victory in part to Tinubu’s backing, emphasized that loyalty to the president should be visible, even in appearance.

“This achievement would not have been possible without a responsible president. In past elections, the major challenge was the absence of presidential support, but today we say thank you,” he said.

He added firmly, “I will not forgive any commissioner who does not wear this cap. At our executive council meetings, if you come without wearing this Asiwaju cap, you will be sent back.”

The governor urged his commissioners to view their appointments as a call to serve the people of Edo State rather than an opportunity for personal gain.

“You have been carefully vetted and confirmed by the State House of Assembly purely on merit. Your nominations are not rewards or patronage but a call to serve,” he stressed.

Okpebholo made clear that his administration is committed to “practical governance” over empty rhetoric, and that their performance will be judged by tangible results delivered to the people.

“Congratulations on your elevation, but remember, this appointment is not for personal enrichment. You are here for service, sacrifice, and to improve the lives of Edo citizens,” he said.

He challenged the commissioners to prepare for action, reminding them that their success will be measured by the positive impact they bring to the state.

“This administration has zero tolerance for corruption. You are expected to demonstrate discipline, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose. Most importantly, show loyalty to the people of Edo State. History will judge us by our actions, not our intentions,” Okpebholo concluded.

Among the dignitaries at the event was the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
