A female officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Assistant Comptroller Akpevwe Ogboru, has returned home after completing a remarkable 72-day solo motorbike journey from Nigeria to Belgium and back.
According to a statement from the Service, Ogboru embarked on the cross-continental ride on August 1, 2025, and arrived back at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post on Saturday, October 11, where she was warmly received by senior officers, including Area Controller Comptroller Wale Adenuga and other top officials from Zone A.
Her journey, which spanned 22 countries across Africa and Europe, was aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and the inclusion of the girl-child.

“This ride was for women’s inclusivity,” Ogboru said. “I want women to know they can pursue their dreams without fear. When fear sets in, it cripples you. But when you move with positivity, everything falls into place.”
She affectionately named her motorcycle Rocky, calling it a symbol of resilience. Despite minor mechanical issues along the way, she maintained a positive mindset and relied on prayer during tough moments.

“My prayer is that this ride brings about positivity and impact. Africa and Europe can learn from each other and grow together.”
Comptroller Adenuga praised Ogboru’s courage, saying her feat reflects the inclusive leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs.

“She has put Nigeria on the global map,” Adenuga said. “Her journey shows what’s possible when boldness and innovation are supported.”
Ogboru is now the first female officer in the Nigeria Customs Service to undertake and complete such a journey, earning widespread admiration across the Service.
