Four soldiers were killed and five others injured when Boko Haram terrorists attacked a military post in Ngamdu, along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, early Friday morning.
The attack occurred around 2:30 a.m., according to military sources.
In a statement confirming the incident, spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, Lt Col Uba Sani, said troops repelled the coordinated assault, which involved rocket-propelled grenades, armed drones, and command-initiated improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
“Despite the intensity of the attack, our troops held their ground and responded with superior firepower, inflicting significant losses on the terrorists,” Sani said.
He confirmed that four personnel were killed in action, while five sustained injuries. Some Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and gun trucks were also damaged during the encounter.
The terrorists reportedly attempted to delay reinforcements by planting multiple IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR), forcing a temporary closure of the highway. Military engineers later cleared three IED-laden spots, and the route has since reopened for both military and civilian movement.
Following the attack, troops were resupplied with critical logistics, including MRAP tyres and ammunition, to sustain operations in the area.
“Credible intelligence confirms heavy terrorist casualties, with reports of mass burials of at least 15 bodies transported in pushcarts around Bula Wura near Wasaram,” Sani added.
He assured that sustained operations are underway to restore normalcy and maintain security in the region.
Meanwhile, the attack caused a major traffic gridlock on the highway during the military’s post-attack clearance and assessment.
Muktar Yahaya, a supervisor with Borno Express, a commercial transport company, said many of their buses were stuck due to military checkpoints and restricted movement.
“Boko Haram launched an attack in Ngamdu. Many of our drivers were held up because of military checks. As of Friday morning, vehicles were parked by the roadside, unable to proceed,” he told The Telegraph.
