Natasha returns to Senate after six-month suspension

The embattled Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, returned to the Senate on Tuesday following the completion of her six-month suspension.

She was present as the upper chamber resumed plenary after a 10-week recess, with Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin presiding over the session.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s return concludes a suspension that sparked widespread public debate earlier this year. The lawmaker was suspended in March 2025 for alleged misconduct related to her protest against the reassignment of her Senate seat by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on February 20.

During her suspension, her office in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing remained locked from March 6, 2025, until it was recently reopened by the Deputy Director of the National Assembly Sergeant-at-Arms, Alabi Adedeji, facilitating her return to official duties.

Two weeks prior, upon regaining access to her office, Akpoti-Uduaghan publicly described Akpabio as a “dictator.”

Notably, Senate President Akpabio was absent during Tuesday’s plenary, but despite his absence, the session saw a strong turnout of lawmakers, signaling a robust resumption of legislative activities.
