The National Assembly has introduced new security protocols restricting access to areas surrounding the office of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The directive was outlined in an internal memo dated October 2, signed by the Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly, Brigadier-General (Rtd) Etido Ekpo.
According to the memo, the corridor connecting the White House lobby to the Senate President’s office is now exclusively reserved for senators and members of the House of Representatives. Aides and personal assistants will no longer be allowed access to this passage.
“You are kindly requested to disseminate this information to distinguished senators, who should in turn inform their aides or personal assistants as appropriate,” the memo stated.
Ekpo explained that the decision is part of broader efforts to maintain a secure and safe environment conducive to legislative business.
The National Assembly is scheduled to resume plenary on October 7, following a recess of more than two months.
