Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja following a highly productive diplomatic mission, where he represented President Bola Tinubu at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York and concluded a series of strategic engagements in Germany.

During the week-long international tour, the Vice President delivered President Tinubu’s national address, which included a strong call for comprehensive reforms of the United Nations, particularly its Security Council structure.

He also advocated for African sovereignty over the continent’s estimated $700 billion in mineral resources, while advancing strategic partnerships with key global actors — including the United Kingdom, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other international stakeholders.

In New York, Vice President Shettima held a high-level meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who commended Nigeria’s growing leadership role and expressed support for the country’s bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

In a separate session with investors, the Vice President unveiled Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunity, positioning the country as a leading destination for climate-conscious investment.

Before departing for engagements in Germany, Shettima also met with members of the Nigerian diaspora community, assuring them of their vital role in President Tinubu’s policy agenda and the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.
