Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has relieved all commissioners and public officers serving in his administration of their duties with immediate effect.
The decision, announced in a statement issued on Wednesday evening by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, comes in the wake of the recent Supreme Court judgment.
Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to members of his cabinet for their contributions to the development of the state over the past two years. He conveyed his appreciation during a valedictory session held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, as part of events marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The statement reads in part: “Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has thanked members of his cabinet for their services and contributions to the development of the State in the last two years.
He also highlighted the importance of Nigeria’s Independence, urging citizens to unite behind President Bola Tinubu in building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation for future generations.”
Reaffirming his commitment to serving the people of Rivers State with renewed energy, Governor Fubara also extended his appreciation to citizens for their continued support and wished Nigerians a happy Independence anniversary.
The statement added: “Furthermore, the Governor has relieved all Commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments, with immediate effect.”
It will be recalled that the immediate past Administrator of the State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), had earlier suspended all commissioners, special advisers, and special assistants appointed by Governor Fubara. This followed the declaration of a state of emergency in the state and the temporary suspension of Fubara by President Bola Tinubu.
During his tenure, Ibas also dissolved state boards and suspended heads of parastatals.
Since Ibas’s exit from the state on September 18, the status of Fubara’s appointees had remained uncertain—until Wednesday’s formal announcement by the Governor.
