Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), scheduled to take place in New York, United States, from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Sunday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President).
During the high-level global gathering, Vice President Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement and participate in the UN General Debates, alongside other world leaders. He is also expected to engage in several key side events.
As part of Nigeria’s climate action commitments, the Vice President will unveil the country’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement at a special UN event on climate change.
On Wednesday, he will join other Heads of State and Government at a high-level Climate Ambition Summit hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Additionally, Vice President Shettima will participate in the High-Level Roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing, hosted by the President of Kenya on September 24. He is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings and attend other official engagements on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
Following his engagements in New York, the Vice President will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for a meeting with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
