Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will swear in 57 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) on Monday, September 29, as part of the official ceremonies marking the commencement of the 2025/2026 legal year.

The event, which will take place at the main courtroom of the Supreme Court, is a highlight of the judicial calendar.

This was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by Festus Akande, the Supreme Court’s Director of Information and Public Relations, in Abuja.

“As part of our long-standing tradition, the Chief Justice of Nigeria will deliver the State of the Judiciary address during the special court session,” the statement said.

The address will provide an overview of the Supreme Court’s performance in the 2024/2025 legal year, as well as offer insights into the broader Nigerian judiciary.

Additionally, key stakeholders from the justice sector, including the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), will deliver speeches on the state of the sector.

The formal proceedings to mark the start of the new legal year will commence at 10:00 am.
