Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has confirmed that he and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, have resolved their political differences, a development he described as a crucial step toward lasting peace and stability in the state.
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Governor Fubara acknowledged the challenges of the six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu, but noted that the period ultimately paved the way for reconciliation among key political actors in Rivers State.
“During this six-month period, Mr. President graciously brokered a peace process involving all parties. Our leader, His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and I, as your Governor, have all agreed to bury the hatchet and embrace peace and reconciliation — in the best interest of our dear Rivers State,” Fubara stated.
The emergency rule, declared in March 2025, led to the temporary suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the entire Rivers State House of Assembly following a protracted political and legislative standoff. Full democratic governance was officially restored in mid-September after the resolution of the crisis.
Governor Fubara’s confirmation of the reconciliation comes amid ongoing political tension in the state, marked by months of rivalry and confrontations between factions loyal to him and those aligned with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
With the peace deal now in place, Fubara expressed optimism about a renewed focus on governance, unity, and the long-term development of Rivers State.
