As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has met with the Olubadan-designate, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Obi also paid a courtesy visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo as part of what he described as ongoing consultations on national unity and development.
Accompanying Obi were Yunusa Tanko, spokesperson for the Labour Party presidential campaign council; Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the party’s 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate; and Segun Adebanjo.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Obi said his visit was primarily to pay homage to the Olubadan-designate and to acknowledge the strategic importance of Ibadan to Nigeria’s political, social, and economic development.
“The visit is about Nigeria, selfless leadership, and leadership that is committed to turning society around,” Obi said.

“Ibadan is very strategic and central to the development of Nigeria. As a former governor, senator, and business tycoon, Senator Ladoja has the wealth of experience required to succeed. I will support him as Olubadan for the sake of one Nigeria.”
He added, “Institutions like the University of Ibadan have trained people from all over the country who are today excelling in various fields. Ibadan truly represents national unity.”
In his remarks, Ladoja described his aspiration to the Olubadan throne as a continuation of his service to humanity.
“That I am alive today is further confirmation of God’s grace upon my life,” he said.
“It is God who enthrones the Olubadan — not wealth, not connections. That is why I will continue to give thanks to Him.”
Today, I with Dr @YunusaTanko , Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Vivour @GRVlagos and Segun Adebanjo visited President Obasanjo on a courtesy visit. Thereafter, we visited the new Olubadan of Ibadan kabiyesi Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja.

Earlier, Obi had shared news of the visits via his official X handle (formerly Twitter), describing them as opportunities to reflect on national unity, good governance, and the future of Nigeria.
“In both visits, we were fortunate to discuss the state of our nation and how all of us can live in unity, love, fairness, and justice progressively together,” he wrote.
“The meetings reaffirmed my belief that building a New Nigeria is possible through a competent team with capacity, compassion, and commitment.”
