Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has officially changed her surname to Ajibade on Instagram, days after concluding a series of lavish wedding ceremonies with Afrobeats star Oluwatosin Ajibade, better known as Mr Eazi.

On Friday, the 29-year-old actress and fashion influencer shared a wedding photo on her Instagram page with the caption “Mr and Mrs Ajibade.” Her verified profile now reads “Temiloluwa Ajibade,” confirming the name change that has since sparked a wave of reactions online.

Mr Eazi, born Oluwatosin Ajibade, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record executive, known for his genre-blending sound and business ventures across Africa’s music industry.

The couple, who tied the knot in August, held a series of spectacular ceremonies across three countries. They had a civil wedding in Monaco, followed by a traditional Yoruba ceremony at the Otedola family residence in Dubai, and concluded with a picturesque church wedding in Iceland.

However, Temi revealed yesterday that their legal union began months earlier. “Let’s go back to the very start… On May 9th 2025, Mummy Ajibade’s Birthday, we had our Court Wedding in Monaco, exactly how we always imagined. Just the two of us. Love is Eazi begins,” she wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post.

The surname change and shared photos have drawn congratulatory messages from celebrities such as Davido, Simi, Veekee James, Toke Makinwa, Shallipopi, DJ Cuppy, Tacha, and Adesua Etomi, among others.

Their wedding, a blend of Nigerian cultural rites and international elegance, was attended by close friends, family, and global entertainers, cementing their status as one of the most celebrated celebrity couples of the year.

Temi’s decision to take her husband’s surname has reignited ongoing conversations in Nigerian feminist and social circles. Many had expected her to either retain the influential Otedola name or hyphenate it with Ajibade.

The conversation picked up steam again after a resurfaced post from August by feminist commentator Rachelle (@omo_kosoko), who wrote on X: “Four years married now, I have relocated, had a baby, held a joint account, travelled solo with my child and not one issue. Don’t let anyone lie to you.”

While some users agreed, arguing that a woman’s identity shouldn’t be tethered to marriage, others maintained that sharing a surname represents familial unity and tradition.

At the wedding, Femi Otedola offered traditional words of advice to his daughter, which also sparked conversation: “You have to succumb to your husband; he’s your boss. Temi, I wish you all the best in your future endeavours. You found a great guy. Very great guy. Blessed guy. He comes from a very decent family.”

While some interpreted his comments as warm and culturally rooted, others viewed them as emblematic of Nigeria’s entrenched patriarchal norms around marriage.

Amid all the discourse, Temi and Mr Eazi have continued to share cherished moments from their journey together, showcasing a union that bridges music, film, fashion, and business.

Their marriage, steeped in both tradition and modernity, not only celebrates love but also spotlights the evolving dynamics of identity, fame, and family in contemporary African society.
