A Magistrate Court in Ikorodu has ordered that two separate DNA tests be conducted on Liam Aloba, the son of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The order was issued on Tuesday by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga in response to an application filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who is seeking to confirm the child’s paternity.
The court directed that the tests be carried out at accredited hospitals, both in Nigeria and abroad. The order also authorizes the Chief Medical Officer of the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos—where the singer’s remains are currently being held—to provide tissue, hair, or any other necessary samples from the deceased’s body for the DNA analysis.
In court documents, Joseph Aloba stated that “uncertainty” remains regarding Liam’s paternity, which is a key issue for determining the child’s welfare and the respondent’s (Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba) maintenance obligations. The application argued that a DNA test is “imperative” to conclusively settle the matter and prevent further delays. Mohbad’s widow, through her counsel, did not oppose the application.
This ruling is the latest development in the ongoing legal disputes surrounding the death of the popular singer, which occurred under controversial circumstances in September 2023.
