An auto crash at the Idi-Iroko inward Ogolonto axis of Ikorodu Road has tragically claimed one life and left two others injured, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.

LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Taofiq Adebayo, explained that the accident occurred when a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus (registration number LND 490 SD) vying for right of way from the Agric axis collided with a fast-moving articulated truck (registration number EKY 121 YJ).

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the bus was recklessly attempting to gain right of way along the main carriageway when it rammed into the articulated truck,” Adebayo said.

In the devastating incident, a passenger seated precariously at the bus doorway was thrown from the vehicle and crushed beneath the rear tires of the truck, resulting in immediate death.

Two other passengers—a man and a woman—sustained severe injuries and were swiftly rescued and transported by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to Ikorodu General Hospital for urgent medical care.

LASTMA confirmed that the deceased’s remains have been released to the family by the Nigeria Police Force.

Security for the rescue operation was bolstered by officers from the Owutu Police Division, ensuring a coordinated response.

“To restore smooth traffic flow along that corridor, the involved vehicles were promptly removed by LASTMA officials,” Adebayo added.

He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and called on all road users to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.
